Why should we choose electrocoagulation (EC) for our water treatment project?
Electrocoagulation has three main advantages over other treatment methods:
What makes TurboCoag® better than other EC units on the market?
Two major issues have plagued electrocoagulation technology and limited its deployment: anode passivation and sludge build-up. These issues have made EC units prone to system failure by clogging up with flocculant and either cease functioning altogether or require an untenable amount of labor and cleaning. With our patented self-cleaning rotational design, we are the only company in the industry to have invented and successfully deployed a solution to passivation and sludge build-up. This solution represents a major breakthrough in water cleaning technology and has unlocked the power of electrocoagulation.
Why has EC not been as popular for water treatment as other methods (e.g. reverse osmosis, evaporation ponds, chemical treatment, etc.)?
The amount of labor required to operate and maintain other EC units—due to the problems of electrode passivation and flocculant build-up—has previously made EC too labor intensive for most industrial processes. Reverse osmosis, evaporation ponds, and chemical treatment are, to various degrees, extremely energy- or capital-intensive, but their reliability when compared to older EC units was indispensable. However, with TurboCoag®, electrocoagulation has become reliable, sustainable, effective, and very affordable.
Is TurboCoag® (or other EC tech) an ideal solution for any clean-water problem?
No. Avivid formulates a unique water treatment plan for each water source based on its contents. It’s possible—but very unlikely! —that our model is unable to treat water with especially unusual makeup. If you want to know whether your water is a candidate for TurboCoag®, send us a sample to test and we’ll respond promptly.
Is Avivid’s model portable?
Avivid’s EC units are portable and scalable. They can be set up in trailers neighboring a temporary worksite, on an outdoor foundation, or in a larger permanent plant.
How much maintenance is required for TurboCoag®’s operation?
Very little. Approximately once every thirty days our EC unit requires replacement of exhausted anodes. Our system is designed to make maintenance quick and easy within 90 minutes!
Does TurboCoag® need to be cleaned?
TurboCoag® is unique among its competitors. It is the only self-cleaning EC unit on the market. Its patented rotational design ensures the floc is kept in suspension until the treated water is sent to a holding tank, the clean water is then decanted, and the sludge removed.
How does TurboCoag® deal with a potential disparity between the flow rate of the water coming into the system, and the water’s flow rate out of the system?
TurboCoag® has no requirements for water flow. The flow rate of the water inside the reactor is totally independent of the water flow outside. This guarantees that sludge build-up is prevented inside the reactor and minimizes maintenance requirements.
How convenient is TurboCoag® for remote projects or projects without a large labor force?
Very convenient! After install, TurboCoag® only requires maintenance approximately every 30 days depending on the dose required to treat contaminated water. Replacement of sacrificial anodes is easy to do and doesn’t require skilled laborers.
How does Avivid charge for its services?
In most cases, Avivid charges per-thousand-gallons treated and for construction and other associated costs. Avivid’s service contract is flexible, allowing for customizable project financing in collaboration with customers to ensure a mutually beneficial treatment plan.
Does Avivid license its technology?

Electrocoagulation has three main advantages over other treatment methods:
- First, EC effectively removes complex organic compounds, heavy metals, suspended and colloidal solids, fats, just about anything you may need removed.
- Second, beyond its simple efficacy, EC eliminates the need for chemicals to process wastewater making water treatment more sustainable, simpler to accomplish, and cheaper.
- Third, EC produces 30-70% less sludge—the waste product of all water treatment processes—than other methods which drastically reduces costs to the user and harm to the environment.
